Level 2 Covid | Here We Go New Zealand!
The news that New Zealand will start a staggered transition to Alert Level 2 from Thursday 14 May brought forth a range of emotions – from relief and joy through to concern and worry. All warranted emotions, given the different situations people have been in over the past 8 weeks. Some have been juggling full-time work with children at home, some have had a chance to slow down and connect and some have faced redundancies. It has certainly tested everyone.
The overriding principle for Level 2 is for everyone to ‘play it safe’ and we know the two best ways to stay safe are:
– Follow strict, regular hygiene practices
– Maintain physical distancing
Back to Business
For those food businesses already operating, review your current SOP’s. Check-in with your team regularly as Covid-decision fatigue is a risk for everyone. Update SOP’s. Communicate the changes to your staff in a way that is meaningful and compassionate (it’s been a tough time for everyone) and Re-train your staff on what they need to know to keep everyone safe.
While staying in your bubble is no longer required, businesses need to record their activities and movement of all staff who visit other premises and anyone who enters into their own facilities. Outside of work we should do the same. Carrying a small notebook and your own pen to capture places we’ve been and sign other registers is our new normal. Because if the worst happens, quick, accurate Contact Tracing is paramount.
For Businesses Starting Up
✔ Prepare your Risk Management Plan
✔ Make use of the official Contact Tracing Register (attached)
✔ Train your team
✔ Follow best practices – take it slowly. We may be at L2 for a while.
Lets Play it Safe New Zealand… we’ve done what most other countries haven’t been able to. Now’s the time to show we can beat this virus. Covid-19 can be overcome, if we act as a collective. And, besides, no-one wants to go back to Level 3.
